More into my personal life...I am single college student. I have no kids but I do have a wonderful cute puppy named Lucky. I absolutely love swimming and bowling. Every summer I cant wait to jump into the pool in the backyard. When Friday nights come I enjoy going to fun way and park side lanes to bowl. On my free time I usually like to search around on Pinterest and follow Ina Garten on Twitter for their new recipes to make. I enjoy relaxing on my porch doing some Art Therapy coloring. Taking walks at the park is my other fave thing to do when I am not teaching or doing schoolwork. In the summer I try to participate in any Hydrocephalus Association activities such as a WALK, Community Network( support group), or National Conference. I myself have not done one for hydro but I did two WALK's for Spinal Bifida and Leukemia. I wasn’t able to participate in anymore WALKs and attend the National Conference since it is in a other state also do to financial reasons and also transportation since I do not drive. I did join on Facebook network support groups called teens take charge, Hydrocephalus Association, and life with hydro.
I was also born with a disability that I want share with you all. I was born premature which caused me to developed Hydrocephalus. It is is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain. This causes increased intracranial pressure inside the skull and may cause progressive enlargement of the head. It was once informally called "Water on the brain. My VP shunt is a medical device that relieves pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation. I have had five brain surgeries since birth. My last shunt revision was when I was 10 years old. Since that revision, I have had no revisions. I have a long plastic tube that connects to a reservoir from the side of my head down to my stomach so that the Cerebral fluid can flow like it should. This is why I also wanted to be a teacher to show everyone who has a disability or not that you can still do the things you want to do in life. Your medical conditions shouldn't stop you from focusing on your career. My plan was to go into special education but i decided to do Early Childhood Education which I am still going to finish but after I still want to get a degree and take classes for Special Education.
At the age of 14 I was granted a wish by Make-A-Wish Foundation because of my medical condition. My wish was to attend the 46th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday Feb 8th 2004. Make-A-Wish is an organization that offers wishes every year, nearly 1,200 children in Illinois are newly diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make-A-Wish® believes that wishes are an important part of the overall care and treatment of these children. Each wish offers the opportunity for a joyous, life-changing experience.
